If you’re in the legal field, life may feel like a whirlwind right now.

Many lawyers are working remotely while trying to help their clients navigate new legislation that may give small business owners the financial stimulus they need during this difficult time. You may even be trying to apply for aid through the CARES Act, Paycheck Protection Program, or SBA loans for your own practice.

The current situation can make even the staunchest optimists fearful for the future. Here at JKI, Inc. we are keeping our heads up, moving to a new data base system, and have found a few things that have worked to help us maintain a positive outlook as we plan for a brighter future.

Embrace Quiet Time

I make it a point to meditate for at least 10 minutes day. For others, quiet time may mean sitting silently with a pet, drinking tea, or even watching the sunrise or sunset in solitude.

Whatever you choose to do and however you choose to spend your quiet time, make sure to carve out a piece of your day, every day, where you take time to reflect and think. No matter how busy you are, these five or 10 minutes of peace can help you recharge.

Get Outside in the Fresh Air

We aren’t experiencing the best weather right now here in the Midwest but bundling up for a brisk walk can help you get in some daily exercise and stay healthy physically and mentally.

When the weather gets warmer, consider bike rides, jogging, or running – solo or with family members.

Control What You Can

So much feels out of our control right now. But one thing you can control is your brand, how you choose to help your clients through these challenging times, and – if you’re looking for a job – how you present yourself.

You may not be able to control every feeling you’ll have during these difficult times, but you can control your reactions to those feelings. Of course, you can also control how well you practice social distancing to flatten the curve and stay safe and healthy.

Visualize Your Best Outcome for the Future

Business owners and jobseekers alike can reflect on how they’d like their futures to look after the pandemic is over.

Once you’ve visualized a plan, take steps to make it happen. Get clear on who your ideal employees may be once you’re in a position to hire again. If you plan to continue your job hunt, seek help to improve your resume. Take a course or a certification that will make you (or your business) more desirable.

Get Organized

If you have extra time on your hands, this is a chance to get organized. Whether that means cleaning your home office, sorting computer files, or putting repeatable processes into place, the steps you take now will put you in a better position for the future.

Reach Out to Others

More people than ever before are spending time on the internet. While some remote workers may struggle to hold down their 9-to-5 job while also homeschooling their children with family constantly underfoot, other people find themselves with more downtime than they could imagine.

Whether you are a jobseeker or a business owner, use social media, blogging, and email to stay in touch with your market. Even as we practice social distancing, it’s a good time to network and build relationships that will widen your social circle.

When it comes time to find a new job, hire employees, or sign on new clients, you’ll have put the building blocks in place, even as the world seems to be on pause.

Here at JKI, we intend to stay in touch through our monthly blogging, newsletters, and updated job listings. Essential businesses may begin hiring again sooner than you would imagine, so it pays to check our listings frequently. If you’re a hiring manager, we hope you’ll think of us when you are ready to bolster your workforce once again.

Stay safe and healthy!
